In this one-act, inspired by Waiting for Godot, two young black, first gen Caribbean high schoolers born and raised in NYC, Joy and Meka, are in the final application stages for a prestigious, life-altering scholarship. While trapped in this surveilled waiting room, barely surviving, confined to their ravenous ambition, they are forced to confront who they’ve become and their uncertain futures.

Chloe McFarlane

Playwright


Chloe McFarlane is a playwright and actor drawn to absurdism as a magnifying glass to the unspoken laws we set but never question. Her work questions identity, legacy, and institutions. Trained at Boston University School of Theatre, BADA (British American Dramatic Academy), and Stella Adler Studio of Acting, she brings a performer's instinct for rhythm into her writing, building worlds felt in the gut before they're understood.

Film and Television credits include Mr. Santa (Amber, dir. Noel Calloway), Mari's Not Depressed (Jessica, dir. Jolie Hoang-Rappaport), Next Shift (Sade, dir. Adio Ash), and Chinese Laundry (Mona, dir. Giorgio Arcelli). Theatre: Copeland & Twain (Eve, Concert Theatre Works); Romeo and Juliet (Juliet, Actor's Shakespeare Project); Little Women(Amy March, Actor's Shakespeare Project).

She doesn't write toward resolution. She believes a better world doesn't come from having the right answers. It comes from asking better questions and refusing to look away from the ones that make us uncomfortable.







Amanda Esmie Reynolds

Playwright

Amanda Esmie Reynolds is a Caribbean American theatre artist and writer from New York City. Amanda’s work is concerned with the black female experience, cycles of violence, and heritage.  And looks to investigate identity and the double consciousness of first generation Americans. She is deeply influenced by her family’s movement to the U.S. from Jamaica, Guyana, and Trinidad & Tobago. She began her training in the drama department at Fiorello H. LaGuardia (Class of 22’) and most recently received a B.F.A in Theatre Arts from Boston University (Class of 26’) with a concentration in Acting, Movement, and Playwriting. Additionally, she studied abroad in London to deepen her understanding of new play development. Amanda speaks the language of Langston Hughes, Amiri Baraka, and Sonia Sanchez. She sees herself in Jennifer Packer paintings and in the many black soap covered faces of Rashid Johnson’. Her central question as an artist lies in the generational efforts of her ancestors to escape—carving out new worlds in the walls surrounding them.

Jasmine Brooks is a director and producer. Jasmine’s directing credits include Is God Is, Pigskin, Macbeth co-adapted with Tia Smith, Charity (David Geffen School of Drama); Pool (No Water), Pride of Doves, seven methods of killing kylie jenner (Yale Cabaret); Intimate Apparel (Silverthorne Theatre Company); Bite Me (NNPN National Showcase of New Plays);Truth or Consequences (Fresh Ink Theatre). Jasmine’s associate/assistant directing credits include Joe Turner’s Come and Gone (The Huntington, dir. Lili-Anne Brown); Twilight: Los Angeles, 1992 (American Repertory Theater, dir. Taibi Magar); The Bluest Eye (The Huntington, dir. Awoye Timpo); BLKS (Speakeasy Stage, dir. Tonasia Jones); can i touch it? (NNPN National Showcase of New Plays, dir. Nicole Watson); Wolf Play (Company One Theatre, dir. Summer L. Williams); Vietgone (Company One Theatre, dir. Michelle Aguillon). Jasmine was the Co-Artistic Director of the Yale Cabaret in the 2025-26 season. Jasmine has directed new play workshops at the National New Play Network, Playwrights’ Center, San Diego Repertory Theatre, and more. Jasmine is a 2025 recipient of the Cody Renard Richard Scholarship Program.
